A crash on Friday morning between a semi and a passenger car has claimed the life of a man.  The crash happened near the 50 mile marker in the westbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road.  This is about one mile east of the LaPorte exit. Preliminary investigation shows that a 2013 Hyundai driven by 36 year old Haifeng Yang, of South Bend, was traveling west when Yang lost control of the vehicle.  A 2015 Freightliner, was also traveling westbound and could not avoid colliding with the Hyundai.  The Freightliner hit the Hyundai in the right side, sending it into the north ditch.  The Freightliner came to a rest in the center median.  The Freightliner driver was uninjured in the crash. Yang received serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in South Bend. A front seat passenger in the Hyundai, 62 year old Qinglian Li, of Shanghai, China, received serious and life-threatening injuries.  Li was transported to LaPorte Hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Chicago. 63 year old Jucai Li, of Shanghai, China, was sitting in the right rear side of the Hyundai and was pronounced deceased at the scene.. A two-year old riding in the left rear was securely fastened in a child seat and was uninjured. The Indiana Toll Road remained opened while reconstruction of the crash was completed. This crash remains under investigation and alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in this crash.
