On a story WIMS has been following, autopsies were conducted Monday on the two individuals discovered deceased in their home on Saturday, February 3rd during a welfare check. The manner of Barbara J. Wilmes’ death was determined to be a homicide by gunshot wound. After the autopsy, Philip A. Wilmes’ death was determined to be a suicide by gunshot wound. On February 3, at 3:40 p.m., the St. Joseph County Police Department was dispatched to the 59300 block of Myrtle Road regarding a welfare check. Responding officers found two individuals in a residence there deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The deceased were identified as husband and wife, 81 year old Philip A. Wilmes and 80 year old Barbara J. Wilmes. Per the autopsy and investigation results, there was nothing to indicate any further foul play or involvement by a third party and therefore the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) has concluded its investigation.
