Early Saturday evening, an intoxicated driver lost control while trying to get onto the interstate and hit another intoxicated driver. A 2005 Toyota Highlander, driven by 21 year old Jacqueline Adan of Hammond, was north bound on State Road (SR) 249 when she exited to the on-ramp to I-94 west bound. Adan failed to negotiate the curve, ran off the roadway, went northeast through the grassy median onto the I-94 west bound to SR 249 exit ramp where she hit a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by 32 year old Leonard Scott, 32 of Michigan City that was slowing down for the stop sign at the end of the ramp. Adan and a seventeen year old passenger also from Hammond, were taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso with non-life threatening injuries. Adan tested over twice the legal limit of .08% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) at .16%. She was taken to the Porter County Jail in Valparaiso where she was charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) Endangerment, OWI Class A Misdemeanor, and OWI Class C Misdemeanor. Scott was also taken to Porter Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He too was taken to the Porter County Jail where he was charged with OWI Refusal Class C Misdemeanor.
