State Road 912 (Cline Avenue) in Gary will have southbound lane closures with traffic getting by on the shoulder between State Road 312 (Chicago Avenue) and U.S. 20 as late as Friday as the result of a spill on the inside lane. Monday, a truck from a private company spilled a substance onto the roadway, resulting in a slick surface. A cleanup company contracted by the company reported to the scene to begin the cleanup process. The substance itself does not create an environmental hazard or a danger to the public. In places where work is taking place, traffic is being pushed to the shoulder. Because of that, a 9-foot width restriction is in place. INDOT will keep the public updated on this situation via its social media channels, including announcing when the road will fully reopen.
