Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa today announced plans for a significant expansion of its meetings and events center.

Scheduled to open by the fall of 2019, the expansion will add nearly 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, giving Blue Chip more than 45,000 square feet of rentable space.

“This expansion is another example of our commitment to the Michigan City community and the state of Indiana, further strengthening our reputation as this region’s premier tourism, entertainment and meeting destination,” said Ted Bogich, Executive Vice President of Operations for Boyd Gaming, operator of Blue Chip.  “Based on the tremendous demand we are seeing for meeting space today, we are confident this project will allow us to significantly grow our meeting and convention business, further diversifying our customer base and introducing thousands of people each year to Blue Chip’s unique brand of hospitality.”

Blue Chip currently features nearly 31,000 square feet of event and meeting space, including the 15,000-square-foot Stardust Event Center. The expansion will add another 14,800 square feet of event space, including a new 11,000-square-foot ballroom divisible into six smaller rooms and 3,800 square feet of pre-function space.

Blue Chip currently expects to begin construction at the end of the year, with a targeted completion date of Fall 2019.

The expansion is Boyd Gaming’s latest investment in Blue Chip, one of the Company’s most popular and successful properties.  Since 2006, Boyd Gaming has added an all-new casino facility, a 302-room hotel tower, the Stardust Events Center, a 10,000-square-foot spa, salon and fitness center, and two new restaurants.  Additionally, the Company finished a complete upgrade and redesign of Blue Chip’s original 184-room hotel tower in 2016.
