Horizon Bank’s Diversity Business Council members attended a meeting at their corporate headquarters to discuss diversity and inclusion initiatives. Horizon Bank executives and the members of the Council had the pleasure of having Michael Suggs, Operations Integrations & Strategy Director for NIPSCO present “Inclusion & Diversity Path to Success.” He discussed retention of a diverse workforce, diversity awareness and how it affects internal and external customers. Suggs has worked at NIPSCO for 37 years, and has advanced Diversity and Inclusion initiatives throughout the NiSource organization and Northwest Indiana. Michael was recognized as an Indiana Champion of Diversity by Indiana Minority Business Magazine in 2014. Suggs is active in his community and passionate about his inclusion and diversity efforts. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE); is a Member of the Chancellors’ Advisory Boards at Indiana University Northwest and Purdue University Northwest; serves on the Indiana University Northwest School of Business Advisory Board; the Board of Directors for the Legacy Foundation of Indiana; Urban League of Northwest Indiana; and the UNCF Northwest Indiana Advisory Council. Organized in 2004, the purpose of Horizon Bank’s Diversity Business Council is to provide oversight and counsel related to Horizon’s overall diversity efforts, practices, provide community input, assist in achieving goals and assist in their outreach efforts.
