A semi lost a coil yesterday evening causing the I-80/94 eastbound to Ripley Street south bound ramp to be closed for approximately two hours. On Wednesday, just after 5:30 pm, a 2000 Volvo semi pulling a covered flatbed, was eastbound on I-80/94 in the right lane when he abruptly had to brake and swerve to avoid an unknown car that cut him off. The coil that was loaded on his trailer rolled off and went across the exit ramp to Ripley Street south bound ramp.  This caused damage to the roadway and the south side guard rail. The coil came to rest on the right shoulder of the Ripley Street south bound ramp exit. An inspection with the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division revealed that the semi was placed out of service for leaky load and insufficient tie downs on his second loaded coil. Woods also had other minor equipment and log book violations also. The ramp was closed for approximately two hours to clean-up the roadway and remove the coil.
