La Porte Community School Corporation will celebrate the completion of its new Performing Arts Center with a Ribbon Cutting & Open House event on Oct. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at La Porte High School, 602 F. Street in La Porte. The ribbon cutting will take place at 6 p.m. and will be administered by the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce.
“The new Performing Arts Center is a magnificent space that helps expand educational learning areas and allows for a dynamic new space for students to create, express and perform,” said Dr. Jane Larson, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, La Porte Community School Corporation.
The space is intended to be used as a both a creative performance center and functional auditorium. Construction for the new Performing Arts Center began in the summer of 2017. The project was part of an $86 million bond that was granted to support K-12 projects, announced during a recent feasibility study. The project was completed within an 18-month timeframe.
“It had been several years since this space was updated and with its completion, the center will offer a larger, more functional space to truly support students in the performing arts and overall educational needs,” said Mark D. Francesconi, Superintendent of Schools, La Porte Community School Corporation.
