Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame has announced President Janice Cervelli has resigned after nearly two-and-a-half years on the job. In a letter to faculty and staff, Board Chair Mary Burke says Provost Nancy Nekvasil will serve as interim president “for as long as needed.”
The school did not give a reason for the resignation, but in her letter Burke thanked Cervelli for her contributions during her tenure. Cervelli began as president in June 2016. The South Bend native had previously served as dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture and the University of Arizona. She was also the first female dean at Clemson University, where she led the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities. Nekvasil has been with Saint Mary’s since 1984 in various faculty and leadership roles. She was appointed provost and senior vice president of academic affairs last year.
