Chief Mark Swistek and The Michigan City Police Commission, are proud to announce the hiring of two new officers. Sworn in by City Clerk Gale Neulieb, and Chief Mark Swistek during a ceremony in the Community Room were Officers Michael Ortega and Daniel Revoir.
Twenty-five year old Officer Michael Ortega, was born in Hammond then later moved to Dyer, Indiana. Michael graduated high school from Lake Central High School in 2011 and acquired a bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Purdue Northwest Hammond, Indiana in 2015. For the past four years prior to accepting a new career with the Michigan City Police Department, he worked as a security guard at Ivy Tech Community College East Chicago, Indiana. His decision to become a police officer began when he was a senior in high school.
Twenty-two year old Officer Daniel Revoir, from St. John, also graduated from Lake Central High School in 2015. He then graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in December 2018, with a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Daniel while attending college received Police certification from the Indiana University Police Academy in the summer of 2017. Prior to joining the Michigan City Police, he worked as a part-time officer for Indiana University Police Department from December 2017 to December 2018. They began their training immediately, where they will receive intensive training in various areas including firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation, and criminal law.
