The Ford traveled against the barrier wall where it struck roadway lodging informational sign with the right side of the Ford. The Ford continued along the barrier wall where it struck the concrete bridge support pillar head on, coming to rest against the concrete pillar.
Two motorists and a Griffith police officer arrived and attempted to assist the driver but could not remove the driver due to the extensive front end damage that had pinned the driver inside. Hammond Fire and EMS arrived and had to use the Jaws of Life and other extrication tools to remove the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol may be a factor in the crash. Identification of the driver is being withheld until notification to the family is completed.
