Parents, friends, teachers, and other supporters filled the Michigan City High School auditorium on Tuesday, March 19, as 58 juniors and seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society.
NHS President Evangelea Dabagia led the induction ceremony, which also involved 59 MCHS seniors who were inducted as members last year. The event featured remarks from MCHS Principal Candy Van Buskirk, Michigan City Area Schools Superintendent Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, and NHS sponsor Judy Kovalcik.
NHS Vice Presidents Emma Sells and Hannah Noveroske introduced four student speakers, who addressed the pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, character, and leadership.
Dominic Yanke, speaking on service, urged inductees to explore volunteer opportunities that match their interests, and to go beyond the community service required of all NHS members.
MCHS Principal Candy Van Buskirk shared words of wisdom from her own NHS sponsor and congratulated the inductees. “Lean on the values, ethics, and character you have developed as you make choices throughout your life,” she said.
