INDOT announced that State Road 933 (Lincolnway E) will have some lane closures beginning Monday, April 1, while overhead bridge painting work happens on State Road 23 (Eddy Street). The lane closures are expected to last until early May, and will come in three phases, lasting approximately one week each:
Phase 1: The eastbound ramp and right lane will be closed. Phase 2: The eastbound and westbound left lanes will be closed. Phase 3: The westbound right lane will be closed.
La Porte County Sheriff John T. Boyd is announcing the release of the 2018 Annual Report. The amount of calls for service in 2018 decreased by 12%. A total of 27,177 calls for service were handled by deputies of the Sheriff’s Office as compared to 30,830 calls for service in 2017. Offenses generating an incident report decreased by 9%. A total of 3,369 offenses were investigated in 2018 as compared to 3,685 in 2017. The statistical data in several major crime categories of the report revealed reductions. Such as rapes investigated decreased by 50% (10 vs. 5), burglaries investigated decreased by 39% (193 vs. 117), thefts investigated decreased by 29% (300 vs. 214) and motor vehicle thefts decreased by 39% (56 vs. 34). A total of 1,314 traffic crashes were investigated in 2018 which was a reduction of exactly 100 crashes from the previous year (2017-1,414). Of those, 285 personal injury crashes were investigated in 2018 as compared to 337 personal injury crashes investigated in 2017. Nine (9) fatality crashes were investigated in 2018 by the deputies as compared to fourteen (14) in 2017 which resulted in nineteen (19) deaths. The La Porte County Jail booked in 4,524 subjects. Of that number, 3,259 were males and 1,255 were females. In 2018, the average daily population of inmates confined to the jail was 348. In 2018, the kitchen staff of the La Porte County Jail prepared and served a total of 350,068 meals. A total of 3,264 criminal arrest warrants were issued in 2018 and 2,902 criminal arrest warrants were served in 2018.
