The Valparaiso Police Department have added four new officers with the swearing-in of Jonathan Hand, Ryan Helmecy, Clayton Poore, and Logan Redmon. City Administrator, Bill Oeding, performed the ceremony on Monday at the Valparaiso Police Department, with Chief Balon, numerous officers, family, and friends in attendance.
Jonathan is a 2008 graduate of Kouts High School and has studied Criminal Justice at Vincennes University and Ivy Tech College . Prior to his swearing-in, Jonathan had been working with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department as a Jailer since 2017.
Ryan is a 2015 Portage High School graduate. Ryan has served with the Kodiak Area Native Association in Alaska in 2017-2018 and has worked with the Ogden Dunes Police Department in 2019.
Clayton is a 2014 graduate of Valparaiso High School and a 2018 graduate of Indiana University—Northwest, where he studied Criminal Justice. Clayton also has prior police experience, as he has worked for the I.U.N Police Department since 2018.
Logan is a 2015 graduate of Morgan Township High School and upon graduation joined the United States Marine Corps. While serving his country, Logan became an Infantry Team Leader and Scout Swimmer.
