The Michigan City Area Schools Board of Trustees held a special meeting on June 12 to approve several administrative appointments for the coming school year.

Kevin Goralczyk will serve as the Principal of Michigan City High School. Since 2014, Goralczyk has served as the principal of Our Lady of Hungary School in South Bend. From 2011-2014, he served as Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, and Interim Principal of Michigan City High School.

Julie Friegan is the new Associate Principal of Michigan City High School. Since 2015, Friegan has been the principal of Whiting High School. Prior to her time as Whiting High School Principal, she served as an assistant high school principal in Indianapolis and was a Math teacher at Merrillville High School.

Michael Maesch was appointed Dean of Students for Lake Hills and Pine Elementary Schools. Maesch has been with the Michigan City Area Schools since 2007 as an elementary teacher, working at both Marsh and Knapp. He was selected as an Indiana finalist for the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching in 2018.

Lucas Snyder, who served as the Middle School Dean for Barker and Krueger last year, was appointed Assistant Principal for Barker. In this role, he will assist Barker in several areas, including curriculum, instruction, and assessment; he will also serve as a trainer for the MCAS District Safety Team. Snyder has been with Michigan City Area Schools since 2011, beginning his career as a Social Studies teacher at the high school. He also has been the MCHS Varsity Boys and Girls Track coach since 2014, and has led the Boys Track Team to four straight top 20 finishes at the state level, including a finish as state runner-up in 2016.
