Indiana State Police responded to a 911 call of a crash at the 3 mile marker of Interstate 80 eastbound.

Preliminary Investigation by Trooper William Stancy indicates that a 2001 Toyota Sienna minivan, being driven by Kylie Justice, 22, of Gary, was traveling eastbound when for unknown reasons it swerved and struck the concrete barrier wall near the 3 mile marker in Hammond, Indiana.  Judging by tire marks and other evidence from the scene, it is believed that after striking the center barrier wall, the vehicle traveled back into the roadway and across all 5 lanes before hitting the outer barrier wall and coming to a rest.  The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage.  Ms. Justice was found in the driver’s seat of the minivan, unresponsive, with a laceration to her head.  She was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana.

The driver of the vehicle was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.  The vehicle involved in the crash had an expired registration.
