The Michigan City Street Department will begin Fall Leaf Pickup on Monday, October 26,2020Street Department Superintendent Shong Smith is announcing that beginning on Monday October 26, 2020 , the Michigan City Street Department will be picking up leaves in all three areas of the city. Leaf pick-up will occur daily, Monday through Friday and Saturday as needed, until all leaves are picked up. All residents are encouraged to rake, blow, and/or place their leaves near the street curb along the front of their property.
If residents have branches, they will be picked up along with your leaf piles. Please keep branches separated from leaves. LEAVES WILL NOT BE PICKED UP IN ALLEYWAYS During the leaf schedule the street department will not be taking calls for special leaf pickups. Phone calls for leaves and limbs will resume after the six-week period.
The Street Department staff will be observing Thanksgiving Day and Day After Thanksgiving with their families and then will resume normal duties. Just so we all understand the weather and its unpredictability, leaf pickup will be extended if needed.


AREA 1 October 26-30 & NOVEMBER 16-20Area 1 is marked by Franklin Street on the west, Michigan Boulevard and Roeske Avenue on the east and Kieffer Road on the south.AREA 2 NOVEMBER 2-6 & NOVEMBER 23- 25, (CLOSED 26th-27th for THANKSGIVING) resuming NOVEMBER 28-30

Area 2 is marked by Lake Shore Drive and U.S. 12 and Shoreland Drive on the north, Michigan Boulevard on the south and Meer Road on the east.

AREA 3 NOVEMBER 9-13 & DECEMBER 1-5Area 3 is marked by County Line Road on the west, Franklin Street on the east, Kieffer Road on the south and Lake Michigan on the north.T he Street Department request that residents cooperate by following these simple rules:

 No plastic bags are to be used; however, you may use compost yard waste bags or 32- gallon containers

 Branches, rocks and other debris must be kept out of the leaf piles Leaf piles should be loose in large piles in front of the property as close to the curb as possible, but away from thesewer drains, utility equipment and fire hydrants.​

 Please keep animal waste out of piles. NO GARBAGE TOTERS PLEASE!
