The Michigan City Public Library will begin the third and final phase of remodeling on March 1, 2021. This project includes the following improvements:1. New front entrance and vestibule, both with nighttime lighting2. New canopy, with lighting, over the front entrance3. New Circulation Desk and Circulation staff offices4. New shelving and seating for the front lobby5. Carpeting, electrical, security and data updates
During this phase, which should be finished by mid-June, temporary arrangements are being made for accessing the building. The front plaza will be fenced off and closed to the public. The front entrance and inside lobby area will be closed. The public will be directed to access the building through the east-side doors, located near the drive-up book drop. Patrons should park in the northern portion of the parking lot, which is most convenient for access. Once inside, patrons will be directed through the Meeting Room and into the main library where a temporary Circulation Desk will be located. As many regular services as possible will remain available. The public bathrooms will be open. All other current services and departments will be available and open but Covid-19 restrictions are still in force. The library will make every effort to remain open during this project but some closings may be necessary for safety considerations. The library will post information on Facebook and the website (mclib.org ( http://mclib.org)) with updated information. Also, local radio stations will be notified if closing is necessary. The staff of the library would like to thank patrons for their patience and understanding during the process. We can’t wait to unveil the library lobby’s new look.
