The Valparaiso Police Department has added a new officer with the swearing-in of Michael “Jason” Wray on June 8, 2021. Mayor Matt Murphy performed the ceremony within the council chambers of City Hall. Chief Balon, with numerous officers and civilian staff, joined the friends and family of Jason, who were in attendance to witness the event. During the event, Chief Balon welcomed Jason to the Valparaiso Police family and congratulated him on his appointment.
Jason is a 1997 graduate of the Calvary Christian School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2015 from Purdue University, while majoring in Psychology. Jason further served as a member of the Arkansas National Guard from 2008-2014. Jason’s police experience includes being a 2008 graduate of the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and working with the Valparaiso University Police from 2017-2019. Jason has also served as an officer with the Purdue University Northwest Police Department and the Winfield Police Department from 2019-2021.
