On Wednesday a caucus of Republican Precinct Committeemen was held at the Pleasant Township Fire Department to fill the vacant Pleasant Township Trustee seat.
The vacancy was a result of the recent passing of longtime Pleasant Township Trustee Susan Cable. Cable held the Pleasant Township Trustee’s seat for 26 years prior to her passing.
Seven candidates introduced themselves and presented their platforms. A new Trustee was elected in the first round of voting with Pleasant Township resident Joy Zigler garnering the needed majority of votes to win. Immediately following the caucus, Zigler was sworn in by La Porte County Clerk of the Circuit Court Heather Stevens. Zigler will fill the balance of the term which ends at the end of 2022.
