The Michigan City Area Schools Board of School Trustees recently approved the district’s COVID Response Plan for the 2021-22 school year.

The school district says based on new guidance from the CDC, face masks will be required for all individuals at schools and on school buses, including students, staff, and visitors. This is regardless of vaccination status. Masks will not be required for school activities taking place outdoors.

When MCAS is made aware of a confirmed positive case at school, they will notify any close contacts. However, based on guidance from the Indiana State Department of Health, individuals wearing masks and maintaining at least 3 feet of physical distance will not be identified as close contacts. In addition, vaccinated individuals and those who had COVID in the last 90 days will not be required to quarantine if they are close contacts, unless they are symptomatic.

They also urge all individuals to be vaccinated for COVID-19, as soon as you are eligible. Free vaccines for anyone age 12 and over are available at many locations in the community and will also be available at the Citywide Back to School Rally on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 12-4p.m. at Elston’s Gill Field.

The Dress for Success uniforms will not be required for the 2021-22 School year. The revised dress code for this school year is the same as last year. More information on the COVID response plan can be found on the MCAS Facebook page and the MCAS website.
