A motorist died in hospital following a single-vehicle accident on County Road 200W in Liberty Township on Thursday evening, Nov. 2, according to a Facebook post from the Town of Chesterton.

According to the PCSP, at 6:13 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 900 north block of County Road 200W, after a witness reported seeing a vehicle hit a tree and possibly rolling.

Officers located the vehicle in the middle of the roadway, which was occupied by a male driver.

“All airbags had deployed and the vehicle had major damage,” the PCSP said. “The male was conscious/alert and was speaking with officers on scene.”

The initial investigation indicates that the motorist was southbound in a 2010 Honda passenger vehicle when for an unknown reason he left the roadway south of the railroad tracks and struck a tree on the east side of the road, the PCSP said.

“The man was transported to Northwest Health-Porter for treatment,” the PCSP said. “Later our office was informed the male had unfortunately passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the driver during this incredibly difficult time.”
