The driver of a stolen vehicle led police on a pursuit through multiple counties in northwest Indiana, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

Shortly before noon Tuesday a police officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department received an alert about a possibly stolen vehicle on their License Plate Reader Network. The vehicle was eastbound on the Borman Expressway. After locating the vehicle, the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, resulting in a high-speed pursuit.

The fleeing driver traveled through Gary, and Lake Station, then continued into Porter County.  The driver headed south on State Highway 49 in Chesterton, where officers performed a maneuver to safely stop the vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  There were no reported injuries.  Officers confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Broadview, Illinois.
