A Cedar Lake woman was treated for serious injuries after the SUV she was driving crashed into a tree near 109th and Bell in Center Township. The crash happened April 18 just after 11 p.m. A preliminary investigation revealed the Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling westbound on West 109th Avenue near the 7000 block when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The SUV came to rest in a ditch.
When officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department arrived, they had to break a window to check on the driver. Police say she was unresponsive and seemed to be struggling to breathe. Paramedics pulled the 51-year-old woman from the SUV and she was transported to an area hospital. She was the only occupant in the SUV.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating what led to the crash.
