City residents are invited to share their thoughts on how federal grant dollars ought to be spent within La Porte, according to CDBG Program Manager Mary Ann Richards.
The City of La Porte is set to receive federal funds through the Community Development Block Grant program to be used effective October 1 of this year. Historically, these funds have been used for a variety of projects targeting low- and moderate-income areas within the community. Richards said residents with ideas are encouraged to attend an upcoming public hearing to share their thoughts.
“These funds have had a major impact on several projects in our community over the years, many of which started as ideas or input from our very own residents,” Richards said. “We welcome any and all feedback from our citizens, and invite anyone with thoughts on the matter to attend the upcoming meeting.”
The hearing will take place at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at City Hall. Richards said eligible activities for the grant include:
- Public service activities;
- Physical barrier elimination for the disabled;
- Public facilities and improvements;
- Street improvements;
- Demolition of blighted structures;
- Housing programs; and
- Economic development.
Residents who are unable to attend the meeting may still submit their thoughts in writing. Written comments will be accepted through Jun. 10 and can be mailed to City Hall to the attention of Mary Ann Richards or emailed to marichards@cityoflaportein.gov.
Those with questions may contact Richards at 219-362-8260.
