A Message from Lake County Sheriff’s Department:
We have been informed of another scam where someone pretending to be the Lake County Sheriff’s Department is trying to connect with area residents.
This time, the fraudster actually called a local school administrator and left a message asking that person to return the call. The scammer left a phone number which appeared as a Lake County government number on caller ID.
The scammer identified himself as a Sergeant Carl Porter from the Lake County Police Department. We do not have a Carl Porter on our staff.
If you get a similar call, please do not make any attempt to connect with this person. We are investigating this incident to try to determine the identity of the caller and his intention.
In addition, there are many similar scams circulating in our area where people are trying to steal cash and personal information. Sometimes the fraudsters claim people can pay them to avoid getting arrested. Keep in mind that the Lake County Sheriff’s Department never contacts civilians by phone demanding payment for an arrest warrant or anything else.
