LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — Two drivers were hospitalized after a head-on collision Saturday in Lake County, according to Sheriff Oscar Martinez.

On Saturday, at around 4:35 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Department patrol units were dispatched to the area of 2100 W. 169th Avenue in unincorporated Lowell for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates a Ford Escape SUV was traveling eastbound on 169th Avenue and a Kia Soul SUV was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford was later transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center.  At last check, the driver of the Kia remained in a local hospital.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating to determine factors which led to the crash.
