Waste Not, Want Not!

As part of an on-going drive to help clean our community and reduce unwanted household clutter,
Michigan City has developed a Waste Not, Want Not Fall Campaign.

This program will give the community an opportunity to safely and responsibly rid their homes of
unwanted and unused items.

Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 10, the City will host a drop-off center located at our Michigan City
Municipal Airport at Phillips Field 1300 North Highway 212 to dispose of approved various unwanted
household items.

The Waste Not, Want Not Fall Campaign is clearly designed with community care in mind, offering
residents a chance to part ways with unused or unwanted household items in a safe and organized way.

Here’s a quick summary of the key details:

Drop-Off Dates and Times
• Wednesday, Sept. 10 Wednesday, Sept. 17 Wednesday, Sept. 24
• Saturday, Sept. 13 Saturday, Sept. 20 Saturday, Sept. 27
• ALL DATES 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Location
• Michigan City Municipal Airport – Phillips Field
• 1300 North Highway 212

Purpose
• To reduce household clutter
• To prevent illegal dumping
• To encourage environmentally-friendly disposal of approved items
If you’re planning to participate, please refer to the list below of approved items. We DO NOT accept
hazardous materials, electronics, or large appliances.

Accepted Items
• Furniture (chairs, tables, shelves)
• Mattresses and box springs
• Toys, books, and games
• Kitchenware (pots, pans, dishes)
• Appliances (microwaves, toasters, vacuums)
• Yard tools and equipment
• Bicycles and sports gear
• TIRES (Limit 4 per household, NO Commercial or Businesses)

Not Accepted
• Hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, batteries)
• Construction debris (drywall, bricks, concrete, lumber)
• Large appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers)
• Medical waste or sharps
• Yard waste (brush, limbs, shrubs, or trees)
• ANY ITEMS FROM CONTRACTORS OR BUSINESSES

Just bring your unwanted items to the airport between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. You will need to supply an I.D.
showing you are a Michigan City resident, and you will be directed to the Dumpster area for off-loading.
And if you’re feeling extra inspired, maybe rally a few neighbors to join in and make it a community effort!

Please note: Participants will need to arrange their own method of transport.

Certain vehicles will not be allowed access to the Drop Off Center
• Box Trucks over 16 feet in length
• Trailers over 16 feet in length
• Flatbed, Utility, Dump or Semi-Trucks
• Vehicles containing non-verifiable contents
