Nest Community Shelter, La Porte County’s only emergency shelter for unhoused men, women, and women with children, is graciously sharing a substantial donation of Bombas brand socks with the Michigan City Area Schools to be distributed to students in need. Over 2,000 pairs of these high-quality socks will be put to good use through the Michigan City Area Schools, reaching students who can use them free of charge.

“Bombas is so incredibly generous to Nest Community Shelter and to our entire community,” said Harrison Holtkamp, Executive Director of the Nest Community Shelter. “We are honored to share this generous donation with our local school. We want every student who needs a pair of socks or two to have them.”

Bombas, makers of premium socks, match every sock purchased with donations to shelters across the country. This is the third year this donation has been generously given to Nest. After ensuring all Nest guests received the socks they needed, the Nest donated excess pairs of socks to the Michigan City Area Schools.

Michigan City Area Schools will distribute the donated socks to students identified as unhoused or coming from low-income households across all grade levels.

“MCAS is so grateful for the partnership and generosity of the Nest Community Shelter in securing and sharing this donation of socks with our students. When our students feel supported and cared for, they can focus on achieving their full potential,” Associate Superintendent Cathy Bildhauser said.
