A motorcyclist was airlifted to an Illinois hospital with severe injuries following a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 6 and North Calumet Avenue in Liberty Township, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police and Town of Chesterton are reporting.
The Town of Chesterton says that according to PCSP, at approximately 1:03 p.m. a male motorcyclist was westbound on U.S. 6 when he disregarded the traffic signal at the intersection of North Calumet Ave and collided with an SUV turning eastbound onto U.S. 6 from southbound North Calumet Ave.
The motorcyclist was flown by Lutheran Air to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illl., the PCSP said. He was reported to be in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the SUV sustained no injuries.
The Porter County Reconstruction Team is investigating.
