The La Porte Police Department announced an arrest in connection to a recent homicide.
On Sunday, Sept. 28, at approximately 8:50 PM, officers from the La Porte Police Department responded to a medical emergency at a residence in the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located 58-year-old Aaron Stingley, who was unconscious. He was treated on scene by EMS and transported to Northwest Health La Porte, where he was later pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation, family members alleged that Mr. Stingley’s stepson, Breon M. Ware, had strangled him during an altercation that evening. Ware was located and taken into custody shortly thereafter. He was held on a 48-hour probable cause hold while detectives pursued search warrants for the residence.
Evidence recovered at the scene included a shotgun that Ware was reported to have possessed during the incident. An autopsy conducted on September 30, 2025, confirmed that Mr. Stingley’s cause of death was asphyxiation.
Further investigation revealed that Ware has a prior conviction for a serious violent felony in 2013, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm. As a result, Ware has been formally charged with murder and serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.
Police say this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The La Porte Police Department reminds the community that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Police say if you have any further information, to contact Detective Sergeant Adam Jaskowiak at 219-362-9446
