The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is deeply saddened to share that one of our correctional officers was tragically killed in a traffic accident early this morning.
It happened at Route 30 and Austin Avenue in Schererville. The officer was off duty when his car was struck by another vehicle. He was flown to a Chicago hospital and later pronounced deceased. He had worked as a correctional officer with the Lake County Jail for almost 9 years.
The driver of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot. A search for that driver is ongoing. The Schererville Police Department is leading the investigation.
No further details will be released until next of kin have been notified.
