Trick-or-treat in the Town of Chesterton will from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, according to the Town of Chesterton Facebook page.
Chesterton Police Chief Tim Richardson noted that trick-or-treat in the unincorporated parts of Porter County will go later and be one hour longer, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. “I do know that the county has switched it up a little bit and they’re doing 5 to 8 p.m.,” he said. “I think there was some pressure, some online groups, saying, ‘What can’t we do 5 to 8 p.m. in these communities, because of our jobs?’ We agreed, the Porter and Burns Harbor chiefs and I, that maybe we’ll talk about that next year because it’s on a Saturday. From my observations, by 7:30 p.m. the kids are off the streets.”
Member Jim Schnadenberg is under the same impression. “That’s what I’ve experienced in my neighborhood,” he agreed. “Next year it’ll be on a Saturday and we’ll reevaluate.”
