Update-Michigan City Police Department conducting a double homicide investigation
On October 19th, 2025 at 1:11 AM, the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Johnson Road and County Road West 300 North in LaPorte.
Deputies from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and learned a juvenile involved in this crash investigation was suspected of a double homicide that occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Schofield
Court in Michigan City. This information was then quickly relayed to the Michigan City Police Department.
Officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 3 immediately responded to a residence in the 100 block of Schofield Court for a welfare check and located two deceased adults inside. Detectives from the Investigative Division were summoned to the scene and took over the investigation. The two victims were identified as 67-year-old Michigan City resident Eddie Nixon and 66-year-old Michigan City resident Sylvia White who were also known to the juvenile.
The juvenile was detained by investigators and is currently held at the LaPorte County Juvenile Services Center in LaPorte pending formal charges being filed with the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office. The identity of the juvenile is currently being withheld due to their age. The investigation is ongoing and additional information about this incident will be released when it becomes available. The Michigan City Police Department would like to reiterate this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
