One person died following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Lake County.
According to the Indiana State Police, at around 10:45 a.m., troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-80 eastbound near the 6.4 mile-marker, located about 1.4 miles east of Cline Avenue in Gary.
The initial investigation revealed that a white sedan was changing lanes in front of a semi tractor trailer while driving eastbound on I-80. The rear left side of the white sedan made contact with the front right side of the semi during the lane change. This collision caused the white sedan to spin all the way around before it crashed into the concrete media barrier, according to police.
After the collision with the concrete barrier, ISP said the white sedan bounced back into the lanes of travel and crashed into another sedan and a separate semi. The second semi “t-boned” the white sedan and came to a stop in the lanes of travel after the crash.
Police said the driver of the white sedan was unresponsive after the crash. One of the other drivers involved in the crash began performing CPR on the unresponsive driver. A trooper arrived on scene and began performing CPR and later used an AED. The trooper continued to perform life saving measures until an ambulance arrived and emergency personnel took over.
The driver of the sedan was transported to Northlake Hospital in Gary where she was pronounced deceased.
No other information was released.
