NORTHWEST INDIANA – Franciscan Health Crown Point and Michigan City are offering monthly stroke support groups for stroke survivors, their families and caregivers.
The Michigan City group will meet at 2 p.m. Central on the second Tuesday of each month in the Mother Maria Theresia Conference Room at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way. Attendees can park in the main entrance parking lot and enter through Entrance A.
The Crown Point group meets at 1 p.m. Central on different days during the first week of every other month in the San Damiano Conference Room B at Franciscan Health Crown Point, 12750 Saint Francis Drive. Attendees can park at the main entrance and enter through those doors. Valet parking is available.
The Crown Point group will meet Feb. 2 for a discussion on community resources for stroke survivors. The April 1 session will focus on managing medications and the June 1 session will include a discussion of stroke awareness and statistics. The Aug. 5 meeting will discuss exercise after a stroke, Oct. 1 will focus on dealing with depression and Dec. 2 will conclude with a Christmas party.
The groups aim to provide stroke survivors and their caregivers with resources in their communities to maximize quality of life and independence through education, encouragement, hope and understanding.
Guest speakers will present educational information related to stroke recovery during each monthly session.
The support groups are free, and pre-registration is not required.
