A Lake County, Indiana Sheriff’s Department police officer is in the hospital after a head-on collision during a police pursuit Wednesday, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. Two people in the suspect’s vehicle were also hospitalized.
According to police, the pursuit began sometime after 6 p.m. and the suspect’s vehicle was headed northbound at a high rate of speed. At 9th Avenue, the vehicle struck an officer’s patrol vehicle head on.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department says the officer is being treated for multiple cuts, and other injuries and is expected to recover.
The driver was placed in custody and taken to an area hospital for evaluation. A passenger in that vehicle was extricated by fire personnel and was also transported to the hospital.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
