Free community concert celebration and student workshop by renowned brass band
MICHIGAN CITY— The Salvation Army of Michigan City and La Porte invite the community to a special weekend of music, worship, and fellowship featuring the renowned Chicago Staff Band, one of The Salvation Army’s premier musical ensembles.
The highlight of the weekend will be a Celebration Concert on Saturday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Michigan City High School, located at 8466 Pahs Road, Michigan City. The concert is free and open to the public.
In addition to the concert, the Chicago Staff Band will host a free music workshop for middle and high school band, orchestra, and choir students from La Porte County earlier that day, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Participating students will have the unique opportunity to perform alongside the Chicago Staff Band during the evening concert.
“The Chicago Staff Band is known around the world for its musical excellence and its ability to connect with communities through inspiring music,” said Major Dale Simmons, who oversees The Salvation Army of La Porte and Michigan City alongside his wife, Major Becky Simmons.
“We are honored to welcome them to La Porte County for a full weekend of music, worship, and fellowship. In addition to the celebration concert and worship service, their willingness to invest in our local students through a free music workshop makes this weekend especially meaningful for our community.”
The workshop is open to instrumental and vocal music students in middle or high school, including those who play woodwind, brass, string or percussion instruments, and vocalists, at any skill level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). Registration is required and must be completed by January 16 at https://tiny.cc/CSBWorkshop.
The weekend will conclude with a united worship service featuring the Chicago Staff Band on Sunday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte, 307 Kingsbury Avenue, La Porte.
All events are free, and attendees are encouraged to consider making a donation during the concert or worship service to support the ongoing work of The Salvation Army serving La Porte County. The Chicago Staff Band is a renowned brass band comprised of highly skilled musicians who are widely recognized for their musical excellence and ministry through music.
