MIRANDA SUAREZ PLEADS GUILTY TO VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER

On January 15, 2026, Miranda Suarez entered a Guilty plea as part of a plea agreement. Ms. Suarez, appearing before Judge Jamie Oss of Superior Court 1, affirmed her involvement in the death of Kyle Suarez. Ms. Suarez was originally charged in October 2023 for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash, a Level 4 Felony. Further investigation into the death of Mr. Suarez resulted in a Murder charge filed later against Ms. Suarez.

Ms. Suarez plead Guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter, a Level 2 Felony, with a total sentence of 18 years for the death of Mr. Suarez. Ms. Suarez will serve 13 years in prison, with the remaining 5 years served in Community Corrections and on probation. Sentencing before Judge Oss will be held in early March 2026.
Prosecuting Attorney Sean Fagan explained: “Originally, Ms. Suarez was charged with the lower felony of Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash. As Michigan City police investigated, they determined that the developed facts pointed towards Murder. Deputies in my Office agreed, and Murder was filed against Ms. Suarez.”
Prosecuting Attorney Fagan continued: “My Office always tries to balance competing factors: the pursuit of justice, the rights of the Defendant, the Victim’s interests, and the facts of the case.

Each case is different, and the best course of action in one case is not necessarily what would happen in a similar case with similar facts. In each situation, we aim for the best and most appropriate result.”

Mr. Fagan ended by saying, “Deputy Prosecutor Dennis Caviston was responsible for this case, and provides value to the Office. As always, the Michigan City Police worked this case, and without their investigatory diligence, the case would not have concluded the way that it did. My thanks to them, and the strong relationship we have with them.”
