A Michigan City woman has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death after striking her husband with a vehicle Monday at the Tall Timbers Apartment complex.
Just before 3 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call indicating that a Chrysler 200 had struck a pedestrian, and another vehicle, in the parking lot of the Tall Timbers apartment complex at the 3000 block of Springland Avenue. The driver fled the area after the crash. Officers responded to the scene as did the Michigan City Fire Department and LaPorte County EMS.
The pedestrian was identified as 24-year-old Kyle Suarez of Michigan City. Police say Suarez was unresponsive and life-saving measures were immediately started. He was transported to Franciscan Hospital by EMS where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Chrysler 200 was soon identified by witnesses as Suarez’s spouse, 34-year-old Miranda Eggleston-Suarez. Police say communication was established with Eggleston-Suarez and she returned to the scene where she was taken into custody.
The initial investigation determined that Mr. Suarez was involved in an altercation with a person in the Tall Timbers parking lot. During this time, Eggleston-Suarez wanted to leave the area and while doing so, struck Suarez and a r pickup truck with the Chrysler 200 she was operating. After the crash, Eggleston-Suarez left the scene. Eggleston-Suarez was arrested on probable cause for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Police say additional charges are possible. The investigation is ongoing.
