The driver of a stolen vehicle led police on a pursuit through multiple counties in northwest Indiana, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
Shortly before noon Tuesday a police officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department received an alert about a possibly stolen vehicle on their License Plate Reader Network. The vehicle was eastbound on the Borman Expressway. After locating the vehicle, the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, resulting in a high-speed pursuit.
The fleeing driver traveled through Gary, and Lake Station, then continued into Porter County. The driver headed south on State Highway 49 in Chesterton, where officers performed a maneuver to safely stop the vehicle.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. There were no reported injuries. Officers confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Broadview, Illinois.
Police did not provide any more information on the suspect.
