No one was injured Tuesday, May 14, in a hit-and-run accident in the construction zone on State Road 49, according to the Town of Chesterton Facebook page.
Police say at 6:43 a.m. the driver of a red pickup truck was northbound in the left lane of State Road 49, north of 1100N, when he or she attempted to pull in front of a second vehicle northbound in the right lane.
Without room enough to make the merge before hitting the cones, however, the driver of the pickup slowed instead and, while trying to pull behind the second vehicle, struck its driver’s side rear tire.
Police say the second vehicle’s driver pulled to the shoulder but the pickup continued northbound on State Road 49 without stopping.
The Town of Chesterton did not provide further information on the incident.
