In La Porte County, an INDOT contractor will conduct alternating lane closures on U.S. 20 between State Road 39 and Fail Road beginning on or after Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Work will begin with the eastbound lanes converted to two-way traffic and westbound lanes closed. No left turns will be allowed through the work zone. County Road 125 West and Range Road will not have access to U.S. 20 from the north side.
Starting in mid-September, the left inside lanes will be closed in each direction. Traffic will utilize the right outside lanes and will be able to make left and right turns in the work zone. County Road 125 West and Range Road traffic will not be able to cross U.S. 20 but will have right in, right out access.
From late September to mid-October, the westbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic and eastbound lanes will be closed. No left turns will be allowed through the work zone. County Road 125 West and Range Road will not have access to U.S. 20 from the south side.
Each traffic configuration will be in place for seven to ten days while pipe replacement work occurs in six locations. This project consists of road reconstruction with added center turn lanes and shoulders in three areas along U.S. 20 between I-94 and State Road 2, with construction continuing in 2026.
INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when driving through this area and follow traffic directions carefully.
