Michigan City, IN –  Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch Monday announced a change in leadership at the Michigan City Police Department. Chief Marty Corley will return to the rank and file, and Steve Forker has been appointed as the new Chief of Police, effective September 14 to facilitate the transition of department leadership.

“Chief Corley has served this community with dedication, passion, and commitment over many years,” said Mayor Nelson Deuitch. “He is one of the most engaged leaders in Michigan City, balancing his work in law enforcement with service on the school board and several community organizations. I want to personally thank him for his years of leadership and commitment to this city. While this was a difficult decision, the demands of the Chief’s office require singular focus, especially during this important moment for our city.”

Mayor Nelson Deuitch emphasized that the leadership transition reflects the City’s commitment to strengthening public safety, accountability, and communication with residents.

“The men and women of the Michigan City Police Department will continue to be focused, responsive, and proactive. I have every confidence that Chief Forker will provide the leadership needed to build on our progress, strengthen trust, and move Michigan City forward,” said Mayor Nelson Deuitch.

The City will work closely with Chief Forker and the leadership team at MCPD to:
• Enhance communication and transparency around critical incidents
• Strengthen community-police partnerships
• Support officers with training and resources to meet today’s challenges
• Keep public safety at the forefront of Michigan City’s future growth

Mayor Nelson Deuitch concluded, “This is a new chapter for the Michigan City Police Department. Together, with Chief Forker, our officers, and our residents, we will continue working toward a safer, stronger, and more vibrant Michigan City.”
