An Elkhart, Indiana man was charged in Sunday’s shooting that took place at a Michigan City gas station, police announced Tuesday.
On Sunday just before 6:30 p.m. the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a person who was shot at BP gas station, located at 1302 East Michigan Boulevard. The victim was then transported to the Michigan City Police Department for medical treatment by a witness at the scene.
Officers provided medical treatment to a 40-year-old Michigan City resident who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the left leg. LaPorte County EMS arrived at the Michigan City Police Department and transported the victim to Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect left the scene in a vehicle that was captured on video surveillance and on multiple Flock Falcon license plate reading cameras. Officers from Uniform Patrol Shift 2 located the suspect and suspect’s vehicle at a residence in the 500 block of Tremont Street with assistance from the Flock Falcon license plate reading camera network. Investigators served a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Tremont Street that produced additional evidence associated with this investigation. Numerous articles of evidence were collected from different locations.
The suspect was detained and identified as 39-year-old Elkhart, Indiana resident Malcolm Walker. A probable cause review was then conducted by the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office. Probable cause was found to charge Walker with attempted murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
Walker was issued a $100,000 cash only bond and is scheduled to appear in LaPorte County Superior Court 1

Detectives from the Investigative Division continue to investigate this incident, process evidence and conduct additional interviews.
