The Porter County Sheriff’s Office said Friday evening that earlier in the day, their School Resource Officers working at Wheeler High School began investigating an alleged threat that was reported.

Police said the threat was thoroughly investigated and found to be not credible.

A report was been taken and police said they will continue to monitor the situation if there are further developments.

Earlier in the day, Wheeler Athletics posted the following statement to their Facebook page on Friday at 3 p.m.:

Please see the attached email from our superintendent:
Attention UTSC Families and Staff,
As shared earlier today, we have been addressing a situation involving an alleged threat reported at Wheeler High School. We want to again reassure our community that the Porter County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed there is no credible threat at this time.
We want to let our UTSC community know that all students who have been rumored to be involved in this situation have been addressed directly by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department. Officers and our WHS administration have met with these students and their families have been contacted. In addition, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers were sent to each student’s home to ensure a thorough investigation.
In order to keep safety at the forefront, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this evening’s Homecoming Parade and Football Game as well as the Homecoming Dance tomorrow to ensure that we can maintain both the safety and integrity of this important tradition.
We recognize how meaningful the Homecoming events are for our students and families, and we sincerely apologize for the disappointment this causes. Please know that we are committed to working with our staff and students to create a plan to reschedule the parade, football game, and dance so that our Bearcat community can still enjoy a memorable and exciting Homecoming experience. We will share more details as soon as new arrangements are finalized.
We deeply appreciate the support and understanding of our families and community as we work together to prioritize safety. Thank you for standing with us as we continue to keep our students, staff, and community safe.
In Partnership,
Leigh Barnes
UTSC Superintendent
