On September 3, 2025, officers from the Michigan City Police Department Patrol Division responded to reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of Franklin Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Michigan City resident, Jacob Addison, who had been shot and would later succumb to his injuries. The matter of death would be ruled a Homicide.
The MCPD Detective Bureau responded and immediately began an extensive investigation. Over the following weeks, detectives worked diligently to develop leads and quickly identified a suspect in the case.
In the early morning hours of September 26, 2025, members of the MCPD SWAT Team and the MCPD Detective Bureau executed a residential search warrant at 1313 Franklin Street. As a result, 47-year-old Michigan City resident Tommy Hodges was taken into custody without further incident.
Hodges was transported to the LaPorte County Jail, where he is currently being held on at $1,000,000 bond for charges of Murder (Level 1 Felony), Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony), and Criminal Recklessness (Level 5 Felony). Hodges initial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday September 30th, 2025 in LaPorte County Superior Court 1 in front of the honorable Judge Jaime Oss.
The Michigan City Police Department would like to commend the tireless efforts of the detectives, patrol officers, and SWAT members who worked collaboratively to bring this investigation to a successful outcome.
