News Release by La Porte Community School Corporation:
LA PORTE, IN — La Porte Community School Corporation (LPCSC) and Preserve Historic La Porte have entered into a memorandum of understanding to jointly fund a feasibility study assessing the scope of work needed to restore Kiwanis Stadium.
The 75-year-old stadium, home to Slicer football, requires significant repairs to meet the needs of a modern high school athletics program. The collaborative agreement, approved by the LPCSC Board of School Trustees on December 8, 2025, marks the first step in the district’s efforts to define a path forward for its football facilities.
“We are grateful for the support of Preserve Historic La Porte as we work together to assess the future of this important community landmark,” said Assistant Superintendent of Operations Dr. Aaron Owney. “This partnership allows us to take a thoughtful, informed approach to determining what Kiwanis Stadium needs to continue serving our students and community.”
Under the agreement, both organizations will share the costs of conducting a comprehensive feasibility study to evaluate the stadium’s condition and identify restoration needs. Upon completion, results will be presented to the Board of School Trustees and shared with the Kiwanis committee established by Dr. Owney to evaluate the stadium and formally recommend a path forward.
