As the temperatures plunge, the Town of Chesterton gave the following information on warming centers around Chesterton:
“Due to the ongoing remodel, the Chesterton town hall meeting room will be unavailable to the public as a warming shelter until the New Year.”
“But with temperatures expected to drop into single digits over the weekend—with subzero windchills—the Duneland Family YMCA and the Healthy Living Campus will both be open during businesses hours for persons whose furnaces fail.”
The Duneland Family YMCA is located at 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton. Hours:
*5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
*10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Healthy Living Campus is located at 651 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton. Hours:
*8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday.
*10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
WESTCHESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Westchester Public Library will also be available as a warming shelter during business hours (and it’s got tons of books!).
The Thomas Branch is located at 200 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton. Hours:
*9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
*9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
*9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
*1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Hageman Branch is located at 100 Francis St., Porter. Hours:
*9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*1 to 5 p.m. Friday.
*Closed Sunday.
