Mayor Angie & City of Michigan City to give away 800 holiday meals MICHIGAN CITY, Indiana – Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch and the City of Michigan City in coordination with the Northern Indiana Food Bank will host a holiday food distribution event at Fedder’s Alley between 9-11 a.m. this Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025.
“The holiday season is about coming together, and no one in our community should have to worry about whether there will be food on the table,” Mayor Angie said. “We want to help families gather
around a good meal and share in the comfort, dignity and care that define who we are as a community –especially during the holidays.”
Using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds earmarked to combat food insecurity, the mayor worked with the food bank to come up with a holiday meal menu that includes hams and all the sides and fixings, from mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese to veggies and desserts.
Originally, the City planned to give away 500 boxes of food, but a generous contribution from Phoenix Construction upped that number to 800 boxes.
Anyone who can use the assistance is welcome to pick up a box during the distribution event, which will run from 9-11 a.m. or until the boxes are gone, whichever comes first.
Please enter at the main gate at Washington Park; then turn right and drive past the Michigan City Senior Center to move into Fedder’s Alley. Volunteers will load boxes into vehicles as they drive through.
